Brady's Civil War Corps
Although there are many Civil War photos that were noted as "By Brady", during the Civil War, he didn't take any photos; he just developed the photos. The actual photos were taken by a group of photographers that Brady hired into his corps. Mathew wanted to be able to capture as much as he possibly could, but knew that this would be impossible for one person. As a solution, he hired these men to travel to different battles for him. These groups would follow soldiers into battle to capture these bits of history, aware of the type of photo that their boss was looking for, and ready to take the perfect pictures.
In addition to the photos that men on his team took, Brady bought negatives from other photographers on the battlefields, and developed these himself. This way, he would have a more complete collection of photos.

"...[Brady] may have recalled, perhaps with a smile, how that quaint name for the mobile darkrooms had come about." -Don Nardo, author of "Civil War Witness"
