Photography had a large impact on the Civil War! However, this may not have been possible without the help of Mathew Brady, now known as the "Father of Photojournalism". There were major challenges in being able to take the photos (photographers followed the soldiers into the battles to snap some photographs). More hardships presented themselves in the photo development process (the Wet-Plate Collodion method was a long process! It required darkrooms, which weren't available in the middle of a battlefield). Yet, these hardships were conquered, as men accomplished an impressive feat that will continue helping us learn for years to come.
“Mr. Brady has done something to bring home to us the terrible reality and earnestness of war. If he has not brought bodies and laid them in our dooryards and along the streets, he has done something very like it.”
-New York Times, October 1862
